I never thought I would be saying this...but here is the new Beach Boys single, "That's Why God Made The Radio". Call me a relic, call me what you will..but I dig this.. The musical landscape is filled with complex sample, beats and loops. It is refreshing to hear basic harmonies coming together to make a beautiful sound.

The power of TV advertising. I heard this song on a Honda commercial and it lead me to YouTube. A very inspiring instrumental by SMIDI called "Be Patient (Still)

From a musical perspective, this past week was filled with happiness and sadness. Dick Clark and Levon Helm passed away.

Dick Clark, a pivotal icon in the world of music and television.

Levon Helm, drummer and vocalist in The Band.

Dick Clark was pioneer in the process of merging rock and roll with television and delivering it to the mainstream.  New Year's Eve just won't be the same without him.

I enjoyed two extremely fun events this past week: Record Store Day and The 2nd annual, Grateful Dead Meet Up at the Movies. A complete Grateful Dead 1989 Alpine Valley concert was shown in select movie theaters across the country. Record Store Day is a celebration of independent record stores..a shrinking concept in the digital world but vinyl lovers remain and their passion is very real. RSD grows each year and features limited releases and various giveaways.....good times!

The best job I ever had was working in a record store (Wee Three Records) in 1981-1982. I still have all my vinyl singles that I started collecting when I worked there....

Obsessive, repetitive listening has always been a problem for me. I find a song I connect with and I slam it into my memory by listening to the song over and over and over and over and ...well..you get the idea. It happened again this weekend. I was reading a blog that featured vintage country from the 50's and 60's and found this gem by Merl Haggard. The classic country singing with drawn out- phrasing, the desperate subject matter of not being able to control your self destructive ways....It's all good...Take a listen if you dare or maybe 2, 3 or 46..
