Yesterday, I attended the 30th Annual Heroes Convention at The Charlotte Convention Center. This was my first comic convention and I was blown away by total sensory overload! What a joy to see people step away from the daily grind and explore an alternate universe filled with fantasy,spandex and fun.  I may have missed the first 29 shows but I am already psyched for Heroes Convention 2013!

Bob Welch. (August 31, 1945 – June 7, 2012)
A tragic end for a former member of Fleetwood Mac,  prior to their explosion into mainstream musical stardom. Welch had his brief moment in the spotlight as a solo artist with a string a hits in the late 70's. My favorite Welch vocal has always been on "Hypnotized",  a spacey dream-scape from his Fleetwood Mac tour of duty...

This week's new release Tuesday was a 5-star extravaganza from a Music Slices perspective! Two of my favorites dropped new works into mix. The Beach Boys released a new CD, That's Why God Made the Radio, containing all new material to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The last song is a melancholy masterpiece by Brian Wilson, Summer's Gone, beautiful and heartbreaking. After my first listen, the final song feels like a goodbye from Brian but one never knows. As the reunited Beach Boys tour the country during this Summer of 2012, I am amazed and thankful to enjoy their Good Vibrations once again!

Chris Robinson, lead singer of The Black Crowes, released the first studio work from his new band, Chris Robinson Brotherhood. Big Moon Ritual captures the spirit of the band's live shows, a loose jam loaded with rock and psychedelic vibes.
